Zarzuela on the Rock

(Gibraltar Chronicle) The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society is proud to announce its forthcoming concert "THE BEST OF ZARZUELA" at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on 20 January commencing at 20:30. The society has been fortunate to invite two of the leading singers in this genre, soprano Sonia de Munck and tenor Alex Vicens, who are regular leading artists in the most important theatre of Zarzuela in the world, the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid. (See What's a 'zarzuela'?)>
Zarzuela enthusiasts will be treated to the most popular and famous arias and duets of Zarzuela, such as excerpts from "Doña Francisquita, El Barberillo de Lavapies, La Dolores, La Tabernera del Puerto, El duo de la Africana, El Barbero de Sevilla y El Trust de los Tenorios" .

A spokesman for the society commented "Although we are aware that from time to time there are other Zarzuela concerts organised in Gibraltar, we humbly feel that this concert is on another level, since the artists involved are amongst the best in the world for Zarzuela. The only reason why it is possible for us to invite artists of this calibre is thanks to the generous sponsorship of PARTYGAMING without whom it would not be possible, since the artists in question command high fees. This in turn continues to push forward the Society's goal to maintain the highest artistic standards in all their events - it does not matter if our concerts feature opera, zarzuela, recital or orchestral - the level we produce is on a par with any cultural centre in the world because we believe this is the least our local public deserve and we are very grateful that our public rewards our efforts with sold-out events".

A must for all Zarzuela lovers on the Rock!

Tickets priced at 20 pounds each are now available from The House of Sacarello in Irish Town and The Silver Shop at 275 Main Street. Credit/debit card purchase is also available by phoning the Society on 20072134. A limited number of tickets are also available to Senior Citizens at the reduced price of 10 pounds via The John Mackintosh Hall at 308 Main Street.
