Arrested for not paying rent

Two men were arrested yesterday morning accused of being the alleged perpetrators of continuous fraud and robbery. The men rented homes for a short time and left wthout paying the rent. According to a Guardia Civil communiqué they were discovered when an owner reported that a laptop computer had been stolen from her property when the men were being interviewed prior to leasing a property. Investigation uncovered that they had also rented a home in Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro and in Manilva, where they had left the rent and electricity andwater bills unpaid.>The GC subsequently found that they had moved six times in two months, leaving a trail of unpaid rent behind them. Their modus operandi included having business cards printed -and leaving those bills unpaid- that presented them as journalists from important media or as the owners of a photography business. The owners were told that the rent wouldbe paid regularly by bank transfer.

One of the men is from Córdoba, is 49, and has a police record for fraud; the other is from Barcelona and is 47.
