'Something smells bad'

CAMPO DE GIBRALTAR
(Original source: TioJimeno) At 25 past midnight, tonight, the RTVE programme, REPOR, is showing a report titled Algo Huele Mal (Something Smells Bad) about pollution in the Campo de Gibraltar and its impact on residents' health. Average life expectancy is twenty years less than the average for other parts of Spain, and the possibility of contracting cancer is 50% above the average. Los Barrios, Algeciras and San Roque have the highest impact. Our air contains a large number of contaminants that, on their own, are aggressive and unhelthy; but even more dangerous is the sinergy between them - that is, breathing a mixture of these contaminants. Members of the Plataforma de Ciudadanos Rodeados por las Fábricas (Citizens Surrounded by Factories), accompanied reporters from the programme through Los Barrios>
making a particular point of a project by LPC Group, where Los Barrios Council, then headed by Alonso Rojas, invested several million euros of public money in an illegal project that has now been stopped by Court Number 2 of Algeciras. This and other projects were sold to the public by the local government of the time with statements by ex-Mayor Rojas, who declared that he had signed agreements with various companies for the creation of 2500 jobs.

Algo Huele Mal can also be seen on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10 on RTVE 24 HORAS (Write 'Repor' in the search engine if you want it on your computer). See a trailer for the programme here.
