LA LÍNEA
(Agencies / Photo: EuropaSur/Erasmo Fenoy) Municipal workers of La Línea today began what they call a 'total strike' that is to last indefinitely. In protest about extensive delays in being paid, the unions involved called for daily work stoppage for 1.5 hours beginning on August 3. These are now extended to every day, all day, and without 'minimum service'. José Porras, the provincial delegate for one of the unions, FSP-UGT, told news agency EFE that they had warned that if back pay had not been received by today, the strikes would be 'total and savage'. Workers are owed their pay checks for July as well as the extra wage due for that month. UPDATE (9.08 pm): 'Total' strike has been called off, but daily stoppages will continue. Workers received July salaries.
