This one is tricky only because it sounds exactly like an English E. It is called I Latina to differentiate it from the Y Griega (or Y), as both are pronouncd in the same way. But this is not a time for confusion. You've already seen the E in Spanish, now take the chip out of your brain and change the E for an I. Oh, dear, we've made it worse, haven't we? Just a little more information: it is the number 1 in the Roman numerical system, and has a closed vocalic and palatal sound.
