TARIFA (Agencies) The animal protection organizations, Alba and Casa Felina, have announced that they will continue their campaign of sterilizing street cats throughout 2011, a continuation of their work in 2010. However, the number of cats and the high price of vet services, mean that the process is much slower than they would like. Parallel to this campaign the organizations are in constant vigilance against animal abuse, an all too frequent occurrence against cats. They are in contact with the Seprona nature protection division of the Guardia Civil throughout all the municipalities in the Campo de Gibraltar, with whom they have carried out numerous operations against wholesale poisoning of felines, particularly in the countryside. Spain's Penal Code contains charges against any kind of animal abuse, be they domestic or not, which is why these organizations are making a call to everyone, asking us not to keep quiet and not be intimidated should we see or suspect mistreatment of animals.
