One in three Spanish children is overweight, says study

SPAIN (Agencies) A study carried out by the Fundación Thao Salud Infantil (Thao Foundation Childrens' Health) among 26,250 boys and girls betwen 3 and 12, i 29 municipalities thoughout the country,and during the 2009/2010 school year, revealed that one of every three children in Spain has overweight problems. One other impotant conclusion from the study is that prevention before age 3 is one of the keys to halt infant obesity. The results were obtained using the IOTF (International Obesity Task Force valuations, which measures age, sex, height and weight to determine weight and/or obesity. Spain is close to the top of the European list on this subject, with 21.1% in the overweight bracket and 8.2% in that of infant obesity.
