Woman arrested for false accusations against 'abusive' husband

LA LÍNEA (Agencies) A woman was detained yesterday by the National Police accused of false testimony and domestic violence. M.A.V., 38, appeared at the Poniente medical centre with bruises and cuts to her face and body, which, she said, had been caried out by her husband. The staff called the Local Police, as they are required to do in such cases. The woman told the staff and the police that her husband had also removed her children, 7 and 8, from the family home. MAV was then taken to the National Police station to be seen by the Family Care Unit there. The woman then made several accusations about her husband's abuses, including that he had thrown a glass at her face and punched her, showing a medical certificate to prove this. She was in fear of her life, she said. But>when the police went to her husband's workplace, a small shop that he runs, they found the children, who without being asked and under no apparent pressure, said that their mother had cut herself on purpose and it was her who had chased their father with a knife. They reported continued abuse of their father by their mother, to whose care they absolutely refused to return. The father said that he had never hit his wife and that all the accusations were false.

The children were then taken to the police station and checked over by medical and psychology personnel, to whom they repeated their previous statements.

The woman, meanwhile, became very nervous indeed and threatened her husband with dath in front of the police agents, and admitted that she had cut herself on purpose and accused her husband 'to make his life hell'. She is now 'at the disposal of the courts'.

THE NUMBER FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE IS 016
