ALGECIRAS (Agencies) Department of the Environment personnel inspecting the beaches over the weekend found two dead Griffin vultures and a loggerhead turtle on the sand at El Chinarral. Both were covered in fuel, presumably that spilled last week in a fire at the sullage tanks at North Mole in Gibraltar. Other animals, particularly seagulls, have also been found on the beaches lately.. Verdemar Ecologistas en Acción, the environmental pressure group, has accused the department of ignoring the Strait Nature Park (Parque Natural del Estrecho), which they say has been seriously damaged by the sullage, in favour of the beaches at Getares and El Rinconcillo.
