Summer swimming pool remains closed for lack of electricity and pool materials

JIMENA The cool, welcoming water of the municipal pool beckons from behind bars. Although swimming lessons have been scheduled since Monday (and money taken for them) the facilities remain closed. The reason: Endesa, the power company, turned off the elctricity for lack of payment (the Ayuntamiento owes them €220,000 and is demanding at least €70,000 to reconnect - and there's no money in the kitty). Worse still, the pools materials supplier is refusing to supply until he is paid his outstanding bills, some from two or more years ago.
