Storm alert for Campo de Gibraltar and much of the SE coast

CAMPO DE GIBRALTAR The national meteorogical service, AEMET, issued a storm warning for the areas marked on the map FOR TOMORROW, SATURDAY, 22. The warning includes an important section of the South Eastern coast as well as the far Western sector, on the coast of Huelva, and probably some of Southern Portugal. Heavy rain and electrical storms can be expected in these areas, so it is advisable to take protective measures with homes and animals. The Civil Protection agency, Protección Civil, has also set out a series of things to do in case of a storm, which is being translated right now by TranslationHELP. What to do in a violent rainstorm>>>

In persistent rain:

If you're driving, slow down, be alert and do not stop in places where water might rise or flow in quantity.

Do not try to save your car in a flooded area.

If you must travel by car, do so on main roads.

If it begins to rain torrentially, believe there is a risk of flooding. Do not cross by car or by foot anywhere that is flooded: you do not know what there might be under the water. Look for the highest spots in the vicinity-

If you're in the countryside, get as far away from rivers or streams as possible. Do not cross any flooded area, however well you think you know it (visual markers you're not even aware of just disappear).

Try to keep informed on the weather.

In a violent downpour:

See the above, and treble it.

About our storms:

The main danger is in the open countryside, particularly with lightning, though it can strike in towns and villages as well. Outside, keep close to buildings. Inside, keep windows closed and avoid draughts. Closed cars can be a good place to find refuge, but be aware of the above.

If the storm takes you by surprise in the open countryside, avoid running, keep to high ground. Do not get under trees for protection and avoid anything metallic, such as fences, water towers, etc.

085 is the fire rescue service emeregncy number

112 is the general emergency number, the only one that will function on a mobile with no credit or battery. (If you have little Spanish, try at least to get across where you are - rehearsing that is not a bad idea!)
