Private Eye goes to town on Spain

SPAIN The famous satirical magazine published an article on Spain in its March issue (yes, March is almost over but what the hay). We discovered this not because we subscribe to it (we can't afford it) but because we came across it looking for something else - not quite, we were listening to GBC Radio a couple of days ago, and they mentioned it in their news section. So we found the cover on the Private Eye site, but couldn't read the whole article as we are not credit-card-carrying subscribers. However, we did find a review of the article on the GBC site, and fearlessly cut enough of it to give you a taste of what it says (okay, okay, we will give you the lot, so long as you promise to visit the GBC site for other information...)>>>

GBC appoints Allan King as Chief Executive

GIBRALTAR
Early in February we reported on the need for improvement at GBC that emanated from a report called 'The Way Forward' by former Sky News presenter Allan King. It emerged yesterday that the appointment of King as the new GBC's Chief Executive has now been approved by the GBC board. A meeting with King to discuss the finer details of a contract will be taking place soon, according to the Gibraltar Chronicle. It's hoped the contract can be signed as early as next month, Board Chairman Tony Provasoli told  GBC viewers.

GBC in need of development and modernisation

The King Report, titled 'The Way Forward' on the Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation says, "Despite its importance to Gibraltar, GBC has (for a variety of reasons) not developed, reformed and modernised to maximise and reflect its continuing relevance and value to Gibraltar in a changing mediatic world and in a changed Gibraltar. Nor has it maintained the required degree of operating efficiency, creative output, motivation, an effective management structure, or the most appropriate programme mix and output," adding that "it needs to change in order to survive and prosper in the future." You can read the whole report on The Gibraltar Chronicle.
