ALGECIRAS (Source & photo: EuropaSur) Saint Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of environmentalists and pets - but you knew that, didn't you? So you took your pet to be blessed by the parish priest at the San García Abad parish church, on the 4th, didn't you? Oh, well, you might have been able to do this at almost any church, though it was San García's first time. It's a tradition, you see, to get your pet blessed on St. Francis's Day. The courtyard, according to the paper, looked more like a zoo than a church. Dogs, cats, hamsters, canaries and even an iguana came by for the blessing. Some balked a bit about the Holy Water on them but no major incidents were reported. In fact, Father Jose Carlos thought it went so well that he is planning a repeat next year.
