Pronouncing Spanish - start at the beginning (J)

Now then, get your salivary glands under control (if you wear false teeth, those too). There is no equivalent sound in English, but there is a subtle difference in pronounciation in Spanish, but we needn't get into that just yet. Just click on the image and give it a try. Here's a tip: do it on your own, preferably in front of a mirror. Have a good laugh, but don't try it in public until you learn it well. Just for the record, it is a
fricative consonantial phoneme. According to some research sources, although it is classified as voiceless (i.e. soundless), the tension in its pronunciation varies according to regional and/or national accents, so the letter varies from vibrant to aspirant. So there.
