ARCO 2011opens with fewer galleries but better quality

Brian Griffin (UK)
MADRID This year's edition, the 30th, of ARCOmadrid, the International Contemporary Art Fair, opened yesterday, optimistically looking towards a reactivation of economic activity in this sector. Spanish and international art collectors will come to ARCOmadrid to find a wide selection of works covering a wide variety of prices, media, periods and artists. From masterpieces by blue-chip artists from the 20th and 21st century, to affordable pieces from emerging talents, or photographs and graphic works better suited to the pockets of would-be collectors and first-time buyers, the extremely wide range covers all tastes, trends and media, from timeless classics to the achingly on-trend, signed by around 3,000 practitioners on the rosters of the 197 participating galleries. The fair is open until the 20th.
