€4.6 million in fake perfume and cosmetics

ALGECIRAS (Agencies) The revenue authorities (Agencia Tributaria), in cooperation with the Guardia Civil, concluded an operation that began in April, whereby they found and confiscated a total of 86,900 pieces of fake cosmetics and perfumes with a street value of some€4.6 million. The false items were found in a container that came from Dubai and was headed for Angola. The operation began in April, when the Risk Assessment unit of the Agencia Tributaria at Algeciras port found the container; the owners of the trade mark brands were contacted, as per EU law, who confirmed that the contents were fakes. Among the well known brands were those of Giorgio Armani, Versace, Givenchy, Paco Rabanne, Issey Miyake, Azzaro, Kenzo, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent, Cacharel and Carolina Herrera, among others. This operation follows another recent one where some 3,600 fake sports clothing -including the Spanish football team's - were discovered coming in from Morocco, resulting in 13 arrests, and which we reported here.
