Environmentalists: Gibraltar bunkering in Spanish waters

GIBRALTAR/SPAIN According to the Verdemar-Ecologistas en Acción environmental pressure group, Gibraltar is bunkering (fuelling ships at sea, photo) in Spanish territorial waters. The waters around the Rock have been in dispute for centuries (See The Alexander Bewick Soap Box on the subject), and the group accuses the Spanish government of talking about water jurisdiction 'when it is not even capable of protecting [waters] that are not in dispute with Gibraltar'. It adds that bunkering uses about 90 miles of Spanish waters to carry out the environmentally dangerous activity.
