Rocamar loses Hotel status and becomes a Hostal

LA LÍNEA (Agencies) The landmark Rocamar, at the Western end of the waterfont, has lost its status as a three-star Hotel and become a two-star Hostal (the definition in Spanish is not the same as the English word; it is a step or two below a fully-fledged hotel). The manager, Vicente Domínguez received the notification from the Junta's Department of Tourism earlier this month, and a visit from an inspector who told him what steps needed to be taken to get its old status back. The reason behind the measure lies in the apartments contained in the building.>The law requires separate entrances for hotel guests and apartment owners. Domínguez said this was a temporary change of category, as the required building work is already planned. Signage and websites will need to be changed, and there is a month to update them, according to the inspector. The Rocamar will keep its present staffing levels as well as the services it offers. Prices will also be maintained, although these have already been lowered because of the crisis.
