Would not contest extradition
GIBRALTAR (GibChronicle) A man convicted in the UK of a sex offence against a child was arrested in Gibraltar on a European arrest warrant last Friday. Gregory Benson, 32, of Salford in Manchester, had been convicted of actual bodily harm and indecent assault on a boy under the age of 14 years. The arrest warrant was issued when Benson failed to surrender to court bail for sentencing in Manchester. He turned himself in to the Royal Gibraltar Police and appeared before the Magistrates Court yesterday after spending the weekend in custody. Benson accepted the conditions of the warrant and confirmed that he would not be contesting extradition. He was remanded in custody for 10 days while authorities in Britain make arrangements to fly him back to the UK.
