EasyJet changes baggage rules

EasyJet has changed the goal posts about hand luggage. The new maximum size bag allowed in the passenger cabin is 50 x 40 x 20 centimetres - smaller even than Ryanair's hand luggage allowance of 55 x 40 x 20. This rule comes into effect on July 2, according to the EasyJet website. Until then, the maximum size allowed at present is 56 x 45 x 25 - though we have had reports of people being forced to put bags this size in the hold on busy flights. Sources at the airline tell us that the new requirements are the result of passengers opting for taking hand luggage only, instead of paying for bags in the hold. In addition, luggage manufacturers are said to be making bags of this new size as fast as possible. (It might be an idea to keep an eye on the Which? website for information on them.)

easyJet cancels Gib-Liverpool route

GIBRALTAR/UK According to the Gibraltar Chronicle, easyJet has removed its Gib-Liverpool route from its Winter 2012 schedule. The airline's website says that the route is for sale until October 27, so that must be the cut off date. The Chronicle quotes Ali Gayward, easyJet’s Commercial Manager: “easyJet has recently undertaken a review of underperforming routes, and following this review we can confirm that we will not operate flights between Gibraltar and Liverpool during our winter 2012 schedule.” Adding, “However, easyJet remains committed to serving Gibraltar and has recently increased its summer frequency on the London Gatwick route.”

New Gibraltar to Liverpool air route launched today - gaffe included

GIBRALTAR An article on today's online edition of The Gibraltar Chronicle says exactly as follows: "easyJet, the UK's largest airline and which also claims to give best value, is today launching a brand new route to Gibraltar from Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The low-fares airline is now offering a three-times-weekly service from Liverpool to the British-owned island with fares starting from just £27.99 (one-way, including taxes). Seats are now on sale and the inaugural flight will leave Liverpool on Tuesday 29 March 2011." We are delighted that Liverpudleans will have a flight to the Rock closer to home but are distressed that the isthmus on which the airport is built may cut Gibraltar off from the rest of the world.
