Peter Caruana knighted in Queen's Birthday Honours

GIBRALTAR The Rock's former Chief Minister, Peter Caruana, QC, who announced his retirement from active politics earlier this year, was knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours. He will henceforth be known as Sir Peter Caruana, KCMG (Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George). The honour follows 15 years of public service, including four consecutive terms as Chief Minister. The citation states, according to The Gibraltar Chronicle, that he made an immense and outstanding contribution to the reputation and prosperity of Gibraltar, having driven the Territory forward politically and economically during his tenure through a period of transformational change. He achieved diversification of the economy and significant advances and achievements in political and community life for the benefit of Gibraltar. Another Gibraltarian who made the Birthday Honours is James Levy, QC, Senior Partners at  the Hassans law firm, who was awarded a CBE 'for services to the economy and to the community in Gibraltar'.
