Today is the first day of a new 'route' in Tarifa: La Ruta del Atún

TARIFA At 7pm tonight the first edition of a 'Tuna Route' will be opened officially by local authorities - the 'route' (similar to tapa routes with visits to several establishments) last until Sunday. The idea is to promote the gastronomic use of the Red Tuna of the Straits. Tarifa, where 29 restaurants and bars are taking part, joins the project that has been used in several other locations along the coast of Cádiz. Carrefour denounced for false advertising about red tuna

SPAIN (Agencies) The giant French supermarket chain was recently denounced by the Asociación de Pesca, Comercio y Consumo Responsable de Atún Rojo for saying in an advertisement, as part of the Carrefour in Positive campaign, that it doesn't sell red tuna products because it is an endangered species. The association considers that "consumers could be induced to believing that red tuna are in danger of extinction and should not be consumed, thus causing grave financial damage to fishing companies, processors and sellers" of the product. The red tuna is not on the Greenpeace list of endangered species, although there are several campaigns about the method with which the species is fished, and the amount that is taken, despite a severe quota system in place by the EU.
