'Gibraltar - Britain in the Sun' series coming up

GIBRALTAR We are reliably informed (we have to be, we don't have a TV) that a series called 'Gibraltar - Britain in the Sun' is to be broadcast on Channel 5 (The Express calls it 'Little Britain'). The first episode is to be aired on Tuesday 11 - tomorrow! - at 8pm BST, or 9pm in Spain - and on five successive Tuesdays. We are also informed that you can see it online at http://www.filmon.com/#Channel-5, if your soon-to-be-if-it-isn't-already-bollixed sky tv thingy is giving you grief. Please don't ask us about the bollixing satellite problems as we haven't a clue - but we would like your opinion on the programme, please! (Thanks to Simon&Iris for the info.) (Another soon-to-be-released-or-maybe-edited programme is former Conservative Minister Michael Portillo's - he of close Spanish heritage - train travel piece on the Algeciras-Ronda railway - it of British heritage.)

Jimena featured on Danish TV

JIMENA The link below will take you to a Danish TV station that yesterday featured Jimena in one of its programmes. We got this information from a very busy Danish friend in Jimena, whom we have yet to convince to translate it into English or even Spanish. At the very beginning, you will see Tobi el Castañero, whom we featured just a couple of days ago. There are also interviews with local people, in what we think is an item on how the crisis is affecting the average Spaniard (but we could be wrong). Municipal finances make TV redundant

CASTELLAR (Agencies) The municipal television is stopping daily transmissions because of cutbacks. Castellar Mayor Juan Casanova made the announcement after taking stock of his first 100 days in office. The channel will only emit one news programme per week, principally on Council sessions and institutional announcements. The six people on staff will be placed in other departments, all of which are being reorganized. The web page and press department will be maintained. The annual cost of the TV channel amounted to €120,000, which the Mayor thought excessive for Castellar. Jimena, just up the road from Castellar, stopped TV broadcasting last year, has no press office and its website has not been updated since May 27.

 

State broadcaster resigns after giving son lucrative contract

SPAIN (El Pais) During a meeting this morning of Radio Televisión Española (RTVE)'s administrative council, Alberto Oliart resigned from his post as president of the state broadcaster. According to sources close to Oliart, the president had been planning for months to step down as RTVE chief this summer for three reasons: his exhaustion - he is 82 years old -, the ever-fiercer criticism from the opposition Popular Party toward his work, and various setbacks, such as his failure to sell the MotoGP broadcasting rights to Telecinco or not renewing the deal with Mediapro to produce the program España Directo. His resignation comes after the controversy surrounding the decision by Televisión Española to contract Telefónica Broadcast Services (TBS), owned by Oliart's son, Alberto, to provide technical services to its flagship daytime show, La mañana de la 1.

Municipal TV station broadcasts illegally

San Roque TV yesterday (EuropaSur)

SAN ROQUE (EuropaSur) San Roque TV began broadcasting this week despite a notice that to do so is illegal. Emmissions on multiple Channel 29 of the TDT system (digital, all over Spain), which has not been assigned to anyone by any authorities. All television stations in the Campo de Gibraltar, except for Onda Algeciras, are assigned multiple Channel 28 because there was political disagreement on the subject. San Roque thus becomes the first Council to broadcast via the digital system without a licence, though it is still keeping to the same schedule on the now almost-defunct analog system. The Councillor in charge of the matter, José Antonio Cabrera, said that test transmissions are being carried out because they want to transmit the Holy Week processions via the TDT system.
