CAMPO DE GIBRALTAR There have been several reports recently of copper wire robberies throughout the Campo. For instance, the whole of the entrance to Los Barrios, Avenida Manuel Moreno, was left in the dark earlier this month when it was discovered that the cables connecting the street lights had been 'lifted'. Apparently, manholes had been opened, and the system's rubber-coated cables stripped of the copper inside. Los Barrios has to replace 1700m of wiring at a cost of €4000. The Guardia Civil are reporting that high prces for the metal, plus 'the crisis', are behind several similar incidents in the area.
