ALGECIRAS (Agencies) Carlos G.B., a Professor of Anthropology at the Universidad Autónoma in Madrid was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison for sexually abusing two under age girls at a camp-out in Pinar del Rey, in San Roque. The professor, who is still giving classes, has said he would appeal the sentence handed down by Criminal Court 4 in Algeciras. The University has announced that it will not be taking any measures against him until the sentence is 'firm', or final. The incidents took place six years ago, in May 2006, when the professor a colleague and a group of students came to Pinar del Rey to watch a group of apes in the wild (still there). They stayed at a three-bedroom house, having brought sleeping bags with them, which they placed on the floor.>>>The following evening, after dinner, the two girls went to bed, but, according to the sentence, the professor, who alleged in his defense that he had had a lot to drink, laid down beside one of them after ascertaining they were asleep. The girl woke up.
The sentence continues saying that, on being asked by the victim what he was doing, he said that he wanted to sleep next to her. "Immediately after he put his arm around me and began touching my breasts. The first victim then got up, after which the aggressor went over to the second victim, who was deeply asleep and was unaware of what had been going on in the room. This girl was awakened when she realized someone was touching her. She saw it was her professor, who had inserted his hand into the sleeping bag and was touching her thigh. She also managed to get away and went to look for her roommate.
The judge also sentenced the professor to an indemnification of €3,500, plus costs.
