Telefónica to up broadband speed for free

SPAIN (Agencies) In an statement made at the Telecommunications Fair, closed recently in Santander, the President of Telefónica, Guillermo Ansaldo, announced that clients in Spain with broadband (ADSL in Spanish) contracts for 6Mb will be upgraded free of charge to 10Mb, while those already contracting 10Mb would "be offered some kind of compenastion as it isn't possible to charge two different prices for the same service." The executive calculated that the move will affect between 2.5 and 3 million of a total 5.6 million broadband clients. The measure, which needs changes to equipment and the network plant, is to start immediately and will last until the second half of next year. (Prospero note: Excuse the cynic in me, but how long do you bet it'll take to get to Jimena. Pity they don't have wi-fi at th cemetery...)
