Two seriously injured at 'romería', trampled by horses

TARIFA (Agencies) Two people were seriously injured in separate accidents during Sunday's romería in honour of the Virgin of the Light, Tarifa's patron saint. The first happened at about 3.30pm when crowds of pedestrians and horses awaited the start of the annual procession. A badly-thethered horse took fright and panicked, galloping among a terrified crowd, and trampling a middle-aged couple sitting nearby. They were airlifted to the hospital in Algeciras, one badly injured. The second incident occurred at about 7pm and also involved a horse and helicopter emergency service. A rider ran into hanging electric cables, was dismounted, which also frightened her horse.
