SPAIN/ALGECIRAS (Agencies) The Guardia Civil arrested seven people in Guadalajara, Madrid, Málaga and Cádiz charged with belonging to a drug trafficking gang. Over three tons of hashish were seized in the operation, named Tarik. The gang's alleged second in command was taken in Algeciras. The operation began in Guadalajara last November, when the force detected a group of individuals transporting the drug in the so-called Henares Corridor, with storage and distribution at Azuqueca de Henares. The gang operated in several provinces and even in France.>The gang was very structured and organized, with two of its members frequently visiting the coasts of Cádiz province, to buy large quantities of Moroccan 'product'.
Further investigations reealed that the head of the gang, M.B., 32, was about to visit Rota to personally supervise a cargo coming in from Morocco, which was intercepted by the GC of Cádiz. Three gang members were arrested on the high seas, in a vessel transporting 1,800 kilos of hashish.
The Algeciras arrest took place when the gang's second in command, A.A.A., 31, was about to embark on a ferry to Morocco. The head of the gang was arrested at his home in Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid.
The gang was dismembered with the arrest of 7 people, the seizure of 3,150 kilos of the drug, €160,000 in cash, four haigh-range vehicles, 2 vans, one high powered boat and other accoutrements of its trade.
