NEW ZEALAND (Agencies) A Spanish newspaper, El País, reported in its morning edition that that there was a Spaniard among the victims of the Earthquake in Christchurch, a fact that was confirmed later by New Zealand authorities and by the Spanish Foreign Ministry, which added that consular staff were dealing with the problem and the family has been told. New Zealand authorities stated that the man had been in the Canterbury Television building (photo) when the earthquake hit. The newspaper reported, too, that there were another 17 Spanish residents registered in Christchurch and none of them had been heard from since the tremor that devastated the city. Spanish authorities say they doubt the 17 were still living there, as it often happens that people do not de-register when they move.
