Arrested for paying with false €200 at feria

LOS BARRIOS A couple was arrested last Sunday for using false €200 notes to pay for things at the feria. The couple, of about 50 years old, allege that they did so unaware that the notes were false. The police arrested the couple just before midnight, after being told of a false note by the manager of one of the casetas (marquees). They traced another two notes at different places, and obtained descriptions of the couple, who were found at yet another marquee. On them, the police found another false €200 note, and €450 in other legal tender. They allegedly paid for small things, such as a couple of drinks, with the false notes, and obtained change in 'proper' money. (Coming soon: Can you identify false euros?)

Local ferias get under way

CASTELLAR The Feria y Fiestas de Castellar are the ones that start the feria season in the Campo de Gibraltar. Full programme for the Feria de San Pablo

This year's Feria de San Pablo is almost here. Perhaps a little more modest than in the boon years, this is nevertheless one of the quieter (except for the Youth Marquee) ferias in the area. Much tradition, something for all ages, a day for riders, music, also for all ages, dancing and a lot more. 2010 International Birds of the Strait Fair, September 24 to 26

TARIFA Around 50 companies will be taking part in the Feria de Aves in Tarifa between September 24 – 26. The mayor Miguel Manella announced the high level of support after visiting the British Birdwatching fair in Rutland. Tarifa's event promises to get bigger each year, as more emphasis is given to the tourism possibilities of the area. There is an extensive programme of activities planned for the three days, including birdwatching day trips run by local experts, a course on ringing, as well as whale watching; lectures and music, visits to Old Tarifa and the Roman ruins at Baelo Claudia, plus as food and wine tasting - and plenty more. Feria de Casares begins tomorrow

Our neighbouring town, Casares, begins its annual fair tomorrow. This feria is one of the largest of the smaller villages in the area. It includes all the usual fare of a fair (ooops, sorry!) and more. Starting with a parade of gigantes y cabezudos (google it) tomorrow, Thursday 29th, at 8pm, it ends on Sunday with fireworks from the castle. See the whole programme below.>

Jimena May Feria coming up!

JIMENA
Jimena's traditional Feria de Mayo gets under way on May 7 to 9 (weekend after next, already!). Cork loaders' competition, dog show, horse parade and events,  flamenco dancing, music, sherry, all sorts of activities in and around the sports pavilion ... it's all there again this year. The Translation People are kindly translating the programme for you, so keep an eye on the sidebar on JimenaPulse for a link. (Prospero note: This is my favourite feria of the year because it is more 'intimate' than the August one, more of Jimena. I have a feeling everyone thinks the same... Hey, is that me taking a photo in the poster? I take my 'job' seriously, I do!).

Castellar elects Feria Queen and Court

Castellar Council's Comisión de Fiestas elected the town's Royal Procession for their Feria de Castellar y Romería del Santísimo Cristo de la Almoraima. Ladies in waiting are Fabiola Fernández Domínguez, María del Rosario Rodríguez Carou, Natalia Carrillo Segovia and Rocio Silva Herrera. The Queen of the Fair this year is Cristina Barea Alarcón (centre).
