Mijas: Irish-British family die in apparent murder-suicide

MIJAS Three members of a family have been found dead in a Spanish apartment in an apparent murder-suicide believed to be linked to the daughter's disability. It is understood that a note left at the home on the Costa Del Sol, where the bodies of the man, a mother and her daughter were found, said the daughter's disability had become too much and had pushed them to the edge. It is thought the note was written by the man, who is believed to be British. The mother and daughter have been confirmed as Irish. The trio were found inside the apartment in Mijas, Fuengirola, on Wednesday by their landlord. Police said they were working on the theory that the deaths were a murder-suicide. It is thought the three died from gunshot wounds inflicted by one of the adults. The man and woman, a couple in their 50s, and their daughter, in her late 20s, were understood to have been long-term residents of the area.>>>

New radar on A-7

MÁLAGA/Cala de Mijas A new speed trap is to come into operation this coming Friday on the A-7, covering both directions between Kms 200 and 205 at Faro de Calaburras, in the Cala de Mijas area. GIt is pointless to brake just before you see the box as the radar points in both directions - best keep to the 80 Km/h speed limit on that stretch, which has one of the highest accident rates in the province of Málaga. According to DGT sources, fines will not be issued during the first few days of operation, but they will send out letters saying that the speed limit has been exceeded, with other pertinent details.

Mijas fire 'stabilised' but not yet under control

COSTA DEL SOL / Mijas The fire that broke out last night on the mountains around Mijas was said to be 'stabilised' but not yet fully under control, according to reports earlier this afternoon. At the time of writing, we hear that the people evacuated from their homes have been allowed to return, and that the fire has so far burned over 400 hectares. Police are leaning increasingly towards arson as the reason behind the fire, but have yet to prove the possibility. Daybreak brought out the aeroplanes and helicopters to fight against the flames, which, although the wind was fairly heavy, did help to offer some optimism to the many firefighters and police that have been working hard to bring it under control.

Mijas mountain fire fanned by wind, at least 200 people evacuated

COSTA DEL SOL / Mijas (Agencies) Fire broke out on the Serranía de Mijas last night at about 8.30pm. Once again, and again at night. The strong Levante (Easterly) wind fanned the flames, spreading the fire along the mountain range. Some 200 people had to be evacuated from their homes outside the town itself, including a drug rehab centre, all of whom were taken to Las Lagunas sports centre, where they spent the night. Two large urbanizations, La Mairena and La Buganvilla, on the borders of  Mijas, Marbella and Ojén were also evacuated.>>>
